Keratoconus

What Is Keratoconus?

Keratoconus is a type of progressive eye disease that affects the cornea. It causes the cornea to become thinner and more irregular in shape than normal. When this happens, vision is distorted and can cause blurry or hazy images.

Some of the many signs and symptoms of keratoconus include eye strain, light sensitivity, glare and halos around lights. If you experience any of these symptoms or think you might have keratoconus, come in for an eye exam with an eye doctor on our optometry team.

Treatment from an Eye Doctor

There are a few treatment options available for keratoconus. An optometrist on our team may recommend eyeglasses or contact lenses, including specialty scleral lenses that help correct the cornea’s irregular shape and vision.

Fortunately, when caught early, our optometrists can help manage discomfort from keratoconus. We at Olympus Vision can provide excellent eye care services for keratoconus, as well as other vision conditions.

Is There a Cure for Keratoconus?

Currently, there is no cure for keratoconus. However, with regular visits to the eye doctor and prompt treatment, your vision can be managed and improved. With the right care from our optometrist, you can experience clear vision and improved ocular comfort. For instance, scleral lenses can be fitted to correct the shape of your cornea and correct vision problems associated with keratoconus.
